Lucky Yard Sale Day

Since I live in a casual town, I feel like something dressy has to go when I dress up nicely.  I love clothes and costume jewelry, so that would leave shoes out of the exciting category.  I recently wore this 50's style dress from ModCloth with an older pair of espadrilles.  They look funky in the picture but they are cute and comfortable on hot summer days.

Although this print is sold out, if you like a nice 50's silhouette, Emily and Fin styles are a great way to go.  They are always coming out with cute prints, so it's a good idea to check ModCloth's new arrivals frequently.
I bought this cute vintage necklace last month at a garage sale.  I have to admit that I am awful at arriving to garage, yard, flea market sales at a decent hour.  With this particular yard sale, the advertisement stated that it went until 1:00 and I sauntered in at about 1:15 or so.
Luckily the lady was sitting outside talking with family members and had lost track of time.  To top it off, for me at least, I was the only one interested in vintage who had stopped by.

Along with the necklace, I ended up buying two dresses and a skirt that I will show at a later date.

Summer is Here

Summer is here and that means more gardening and due to school being out, less time for things like blogging.  My daughter's theater workshop is only three hours and it goes by fast.
The picture above shows me carrying a bag of coffee grounds from Starbucks to use in my garden.  My plants seem to like coffee and it makes for a pretty ground cover too.

I found the white beaded handbag at Goodwill last week.  The timing could not have been more perfect since it had recently been placed amongst boring old wallets and cheap makeup bags.  The only thing missing were choir voices playing when I first laid eyes on this lovely thing.
This is the old and cranky but cute tiny kitty that lives in the thrift store I frequent.  She was actually sweet the other day, following me around and meowing from time to time.
The other morning while rushing out the door we ran into this Banana Slug.  As a kid I thought they were creepy but I think they're kind of cute now.

In the first picture I'm wearing an older Anthropologie necklace with green and purple beads that was fun to wear with my purple maxi skirt and green J.Crew cardigan.
One of the nice things about maxi skirts is they look cute with printed tees, so shirts that I had lost interest in now have new life.
This shirt with the pink flower is a Liz Claiborne from the year Isaac Mizrahi designed, before he went on to QVC.

Elephants Everywhere

Elephants appear to be showing up in fashion lately and since they are one of my favorite animals, I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some fun pieces.  I found this skirt at Forever 21 about two months ago.
There are a few Mixed Paisley maxi skirts on the Forever 21 website still available.  I wish there was another layer of elephants closer to the top of the skirt instead of only one row at the bottom, but I will take what I can get.

I have shown this older Anthropologie necklace before but I love how the brass elephant looks with the colors in this skirt.

Here is a link to a cute elephant necklace at Anthropologie on sale now.  Druzy Elephant Pendant.

Pinks and Florals

My daughter wanted me to showcase my Fauvism skirt by Troubadour from Anthropologie.  I rarely buy full price but I fell for the unique print that looks like a painting.  This skirt has been back ordered for about three months and at the time I placed an order, Anthropologie was having one of those 25% off sales.  I loved the idea of it being back ordered until May since then I would not have to worry about my card being charged for months.

My bill recently came and all I can say is, between Lilly Pulitzer for Target and my other favorite stores having good deals, my credit card needs a rest.  I also have two bigger ticket items on my wish list, one of which is the wicker frog handbag from Kate Spade.  That froggy needs to be marked down a couple of times, so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it hits sale.
I'm cutting back on shopping, so for example, the espadrilles from Target pictured above will have to wait.  I love these Hawaiian style shoes and they remind me of what was everywhere in the 80's, along with all of the other shoes with floral prints.
I took this picture of a Michael Kors daisy print top at Macys because it could pass for a vintage early 70's shirt.  This would look cute with so many things from pants to various lengths of skirts.
I'm loving the lace and pinks that are showing up in stores lately.  This Macys INC dress would be nice for spring/summer events.
This is another darling INC maxi dress with a Pucci inspiration in yet again, pink.  I'm usually too preoccupied with my favorite stores so I rarely walk around Macys like I used to when I was in my teens and twenties. I had a lot of fun snapping pictures and this leads me to a question for anyone who wants to leave a comment.

As you can see, I just took pictures of garments instead of dressing room reviews.
My question is, do readers mind if I just show pictures of clothes that are currently available without a model?
As a reader of blogs who share the same taste in clothes, I certainly would not mind seeing just clothing shots showcasing what is currently out in stores.
Anything I find that is either Anthropologie or vintage style I love to share with readers.

Fun Cheap Items

One of the things that I have enjoyed about some of the maxi skirts sold at Anthropologie is that when I roll the waist band to shorten the length, the underside of the band looks like a decorative belt.  This is the case with the Vanessa Virginia Petaled Paisley skirt that is marked down to $40 now.
While at Target yesterday, I snapped this picture of a cute Merona maxi skirt and Anthro looking necklace.  I like the idea of bringing out the orange in this skirt and I might have to wish list this one. The skirt is only $20 and the necklace is $13.  There is a part of me that loves a great cheap bargain and because of this, I have to watch out for the impulse buy.
This is why I have started making a list of desired items I have a crush on and need to stick with a monthly budget.
The hair clips and makeup were found on a Dollar Tree run.  Since I wear ponytails a lot, I like to shop for cute floral clips.  I love these Hawaiian themed Plumeria blossoms that come in a two pack.  They seem to do one color with a black flower and I'm hoping there is a pink one yet to come out.

The makeup was fun for me because I love green mascara and there was a huge lot of green Maybelline Great Lash.  I first tried this color when Maybelline came out with different fun colors for either an anniversary or some other limited edition promotion.
Of course when a makeup you like becomes discontinued or a limited edition it can strike panic.

I really like this bright teal/blue nail polish from Revlon with the cobweb art on the lid.  So this was most likely made for Halloween and the other funny thing was how sparse the packaging is.  Notice  the white background with minimal writing and color.  I wonder if this was given out as a promotion at an event and not meant for the mainstream market.
The eye shadow is a glittery black color and I thought I could play around with it as an eye liner.  I really need practice in the eye lining department.
Necklace: Anthropologie Rona Layered. Still available.
Shirt: Anthropologie Meadow Rue Cuyama Tee from 2014.
Shoes: Old J.Crew pointed toe flats.

Dress and Costume Jewelry Window Shopping

I have mentioned before that dressing room photos are the worst.  But I really wanted to share the pretties I found at Target, Kohl's and Macys.  I want to say that I did not buy one thing and when I was leaving the mall, I felt like I was forgetting something.
The funny part is, it wasn't until I uploaded the pictures that I realized how cute the jewelry looks with the dresses.

I liked this Target Merona Floral Crepe Shift dress.  The fabric content is polyester and spandex which I found to be very comfortable.  I'm wearing the size small for a more casual and comfortable look but I think the dress is supposed to be more fitted.  A belt would look cute too.  It's currently $24.99.

As a lover of Betsey Johnson jewelry, I had to snap pictures of these two flower necklaces at Macys.  This rose one is $68 and I always try to buy these on sale.  I find that Macys sales can be frustrating at times when they advertise a huge sale, only to discover that what I'm interested in is not part of the sale.
This would look so pretty with the Merona floral dress.
Now back to Target.  I know, this blog is all over the map.  I have had my eye on this green dress from Merona because it has a 70's business woman look.  Add a long gold chain necklace and Joan Holloway from Mad Men would be wearing this.  The high hem in the front and long in the back takes away the 70's, but I still like it.  One problem is that the sleeves are too long and I'm wearing an XS.  This Belted Crepe Shirt dress is $27.99 and because of the fit on me, I will pass but it is a nice dress.  There is a pink one online and I may consider it if it gets marked way down.
This daisy meets ladybug necklace by Betsey Johnson is another pretty piece that could be worn with the green Merona dress.  It's $48 at Macys and I love the 60's vintage look about it.  I may have to add this to my wishlist, along with that rose one.  Yikes!
At Kohl's I spotted this Croft and Barrow Starfish Stretch bracelet on sale for $12.  Online it's also offered in a gold tone and I find it to be cuter than the Lilly Pulitzer for Target Starfish bracelet.
I have it laying on a Milly for Kohl's dress.

I will do a little Milly for Kohl's review next week.   Have a great weekend!

Pining for Summer in Swans

Hopefully this will be the end of the cool days and we can soon start enjoying spring/summer.  I have shown this older swan skirt and necklace from Anthropologie before, but not together.  I did red with the skirt before but I prefer the orange colors.
I received a 15% of coupon for doing an online Anthropologie survey, so I made a point to order a  skirt in the store to save on shipping costs.  I certainly did not plan on walking out with the Morning Petals cardigan peeking out of a wrapped package.  There have been too many good sales lately.
I wanted to show the cute orange floral artwork in the Anthropologie windows.  They used old newspapers for the background.
I brought out my older Rachel Zoe for QVC handbag and because I have been craving summer, there are a couple of Van Halen CDs inside.  Somehow Van Halen and Anthropologie seems like an odd mix but it keeps life more interesting.
