Trusting a Comedian With Fashion

My mother jokingly referred to me as a snob a few years back when I mentioned that I was admiring a ring on the QVC website, but didn't consider it because it was from the Joan Rivers collection.  It had nothing to do with her personally, it just seems like every other celebrity thinks they are a designer.  But what changed my mind on Joan Rivers is her vast knowledge of jewelry.  It's fun to Tivo the QVC Joan Rivers shows and hear the history behind the pieces in her own collection.
This is my second flower statement necklace from the Joan Rivers line which I have paired here with  Anthropologie and Isaac Mizrahi.  Pictured with the necklace is the lower inside lining of my Far Away From Close cardigan.  I love how the cardigan hangs lower in the back, adding a bit of charm to an otherwise plain sweater.

Shirt: Isaac Mizrahi Essential Tee.
Cardigan: Anthropologie Skirted Fisherman from, Far Away From Close, Fall 2012.
Necklace: Joan Rivers Garden Glam from QVC.
Jeans:  Vera Wang for Kohls.
Shoes: Isaac Mizrahi Ballet flats for QVC.

  1. I love that necklace! I laugh sometimes too about how actresses are becoming celebrities across pop culture: in fashion, in design, in home decor, etc. But sometimes, a celebrity comes out with a line that I totally love because the line is branded so well to align with what I love about the celebrity. Take, for example, Gwen Stefani. I was obsessed with the LAMB line for awhile. I love her kitschy perfume bottles and handbags. And I think that's why celebrity lines keep cropping up. If people love a particular celebrity's "brand", they'll likely love products designed or inspired by that celebrity. Now, I'm no Joan Rivers fan, but I love that necklace! It's whimsical, colorful, and just gaudy enough. I love how you styled it with simple pieces and really let the hot pink and the necklace steal the show!

    1. Thank you Liz. In some ways it's hard to avoid celebrity brands. Jessica Simpson shoes are a big part of the shoe collection at stores like Macys. I have some of her shoes and I especially love her flats. I don't even stop and think about the celebrity aspect of them.

  2. Pretty necklace! And I agree with you about celebrity's thinking they are a designer. Some do a good job, others not so much.

    1. Thank you Jessica. Some celebrity designs stay around but then there are the ones who just disappear. I have a few Jaclyn Smith items and she has been with Kmart for years.

  3. What a great necklace for spring! So pretty and happy. I love how you paired it with the pink.
Joan Rivers ate at the restaurant I worked at years ago. She was very nice. My friend who was waiting on her was so starstruck. She asked Joan for her advice on life and Joan said to stand up straight and be proud of who you are. Love that advice!

    1. Thank you Cynthia. What a nice story about Joan Rivers. It's so nice to hear stories about nice celebrities. I could imagine that it would get annoying to have people coming up to them all the time. But the reality is, if you choose to be in the spotlight, having fans come up to you is part of the package. Their kids should be off limits though.
      Have a nice evening,

  4. I love how you paired that necklace. It is so pretty. I love a cardigan that is different in the back. It just makes it so much more special to me. And it makes sense because it is the majority of the sweater!

I love Joan Rivers and hope to see her comedy act one day!

    1. Thank you Jenni. Those Anthropologie cardigans are some of the best!
I admire Joan Rivers work ethic and it would be fun to see some of the pioneering women of comedy like Carol Burnett as well. I wish I could have seen Phyllis Diller.
      Have a great evening,
