Cost Plus Mishap

This Massey Tweed jacket by Isani was more of a challenge for me than expected.  I originally thought that I would wear a pink tee underneath, but it looked way off.  I asked my daughter what the problem was and she said that I needed a dark blue color with it.  I was skeptical, but found that it was a big improvement.  This was my only Anthropologie purchase for this month and I scored it on an "as is" price because it was missing some stones.
Cost Plus is one of those stores that you can just get lost in.  I'm always finding items that remind me of Anthropologie, like this pretty necklace for $25.

If you look closely, you can see that this pie owl is broken.  I was trying to capture a cool blog photo of the cute owl collection at Cost Plus when, bump, slip and crash went the owl.  I don't know what it is about breaking items in a store that leaves me feeling like I just broke the law.  My daughter was even willing to take the blame for me, since she is more outgoing than I am.  That was really sweet of her, but I told her that I had to be honest and let the salesperson know.  In the end, the nice man who checked us out just set the broken owl aside and I wasn't charged for it.

I'm trying to have more blog photos taken in different locations to change things up a bit.  The result of this one says, "I know that I am being watched and I feel like a narcissistic dork."  This was taken at my daughter's Spring Sing and each grade level from first through fifth, showcase what they have learned in music class all year.

Jacket: Anthropologie Massey Tweed by Isani.
Shirt: Isaac Mizrahi for QVC in navy.  Essentials Crew Neck Tee
Jeans: Anthropologie AG cropped jeans.
Shoes: Payless flats.
Necklace: Cost Plus.  Turquoise and Coral Facet.

  1. Ha! We all feel like narcissistic dorks but we get used to it ; )

I thought I was the only person scouring the shops trying to find something that looks like it came from Anthropologie but was actually bought for 1/10th the price.

I tried on that very same jacket and put it back because I found it too boxy on me. It seems to work nicely on you though. Did you try a white or cream collared blouse? Something not too stiff? Silk is always idea. That would be my suggestion, even if I'm not a big fan of white it might work here. Something that kind of matches the colour of the trim.

Glad to hear you escaped without getting charged for the owl.

    1. I think you are right about trying a blouse with this jacket. I have some vintage ones that never get worn and this might be the answer. I was thinking a pink blouse but showcasing the trim is a good idea too.
      Thanks for stopping by,

  2. I always forget to look at Cost Plus for nifty Anthro like jewelry! Love that necklace. Your daughter is right - your jacket looks fab with the blue! I also like Suzanne's idea of pairing it with a cream colored blouse.
When I am outside taking photos I just pretend I am a famous movie star doing a photo shoot. I am in LA though - people are so used to outdoor photo ops that no one blinks an eye.

    1. Although I was good and did not buy the necklace I was impressed with how much it looked like Anthropologie. I found some headbands that were just like the ones found at Anthro too.
You made a good point about living in LA, that people think you are just another actress. Maybe I should rethink my surfing town and pose with colorful surfboards and or skateboards and people will think I'm the artist.
I will let my daughter know what you said about the blue with the jacket.
      Have a great evening,

  3. I love that jacket with the dark blue. Your daughter has a good eye! I love that pie owl, too. I need it! That is so good of you to tell them about it. I on e broke a super expensive Christmas decoration at a fancy store and I told them and they were so nice about it. Most of the time they are. But it feels awful when it happens!

    1. Thank you Jenni. My daughter does have a good artist's eye and of course she was excited when I read these compliments about her choice of blue for this tricky jacket.
That pie owl is cute and functional as well. It's only about $5.
      Have a great day,

  4. Oooooh, I love that jacket. I would probably style it with a sheath dress and flats. Have you tried a striped shirt? It strikes me that the texture of the jacket may play nicely with the stripes. And oops about the pie owl :)

    1. I was thinking the same thing when I first put this on. That this jacket really belongs with a sheath style dress, like Jackie Kennedy. Since I rarely have occasions to dress up, I need to be able to incorporate pieces into my mom world, which means jackets and jeans or skirts and tees, as an example. The idea of blouses and as you said, a striped shirt are great ideas too.
      Have a great day,
