Embracing the Peplum

I'm glad to hear that peplums are still around, as I definitely need them for maxi skirts.  At five foot four, I have never fully embraced long dresses and skirts since they have always been too long.
My trick for making maxis work is by rolling the top of my skirt to raise the hem.  This then calls for either the shirt tail staying out or the peplum blouse.
I recently purchased a cute peplum blouse from Forever 21 with fun floral colors.  This is one of those stores that you have to be careful with the impulse buy, but this blouse had a vintage quality that appealed to me.  Most of the merchandise seems too young for me, but it's a lot of fun when I do come across something that is vintage inspired or more sophisticated.
The last Anthropologie sale was a fun one and I was happy to find this orange Zocalo skirt on a great sale.  My frustration about the Anthropologie maxi skirts is that the petites sell out too quickly.  Since I wait for sales, by the time the desired skirt hits sale, petites are long gone.  I don't wear petite sizes but since maxis are so long, a petite size helps with the length problem.
I bought this turtle necklace at Target about a year ago and it reminded me so much of J.Crew.  I love the whole knock off market or as they say, fast fashion.  Some people balk at the idea, but hey, not everyone can afford top designers.
Nice try Entenmann's, but the pumpkin is not quite pumpkin enough.
I got so excited when I saw a few boxes of these sitting on the store shelf.  I love pumpkin, Entenmann's, and most anything dessert related so I had to pounce.  I would not even bother with this one since you can barely taste pumpkin or even spices for that matter.

Skirt: Anthropologie Zocalo by Maeve.

  1. I love the bold colours of your outfit. Rolling the waist and wearing a peplum top is a great idea.

I hope peplums will stick around for a while. I have a few peplum dresses that I love but I'm worried they'll look dated very quickly.

    1. I love the peplums too. Your dresses sound really pretty and my feeling on fashion is that if you love it, don't worry if it's in style or not. I think of peplums as a classic retro style from the 40's.
      Have a great day,

  2. What gorgeous colors! I really like how you paired the peach skirt with the top. That top is so beautiful. Hmmmm.... I may have to march myself over to Forever 21 and nab it. It would go with so many different colors. I bet it would look great with jeans and pants too!

    1. Thank you. The colors are a lot of fun. If you do happen to find this blouse, I look forward to seeing it in a future blog post. Forever 21 seems to have nice blouses. I like that it is organized by style so I don't have to waste my time digging in the rock and roll section for example.
      Have fun shopping,

  3. That's a really good idea, to layer peplums over maxi skirts. I hadn't thought of that before, thanks! :)

    1. Yes, the peplum is a fancier way to have the un-tucked shirt look. I discovered this when I saw the Forever 21 blouse and thought it would look great with the Anthro skirt.
      Thanks for stopping by,

  4. This look is so lovely. Your last few posts really illustrate how versatile and pretty orange can be. Like you, I can so easily fall victim to Forever21's prices, especially when I'm used to Anthropologie prices. Stepping into Forever21 can feel like a free for all! But this top is so lovely. With the deep jewel tones, I feel like you could wear it for fall with navy and mustard. As you can see, from my last few comments, I definitely have fall color palettes on my mind!

    1. Thank you! I like your idea of mustard or navy with this blouse. I used to stay away from mustard but it has grown on me over time.
Forever 21 is a lot of fun, especially the jewelry. I also like the fact that there always seems to be something for everyone from conservative to rock and roll.
      Have a nice evening,
