Homemade Vintage Dresses

One of the fun discoveries when shopping for vintage clothing are homemade dresses.  I do enjoy owning clothes with charming old labels but there is something thrilling about finding a crafty item from days gone by.
The prices are usually cheaper when no tags are present so it's easier to treat yourself. I fell in love
with this 50's style dress with daffodils last year at one of my favorite consignment shops.  Although the zipper is old and the dress has a 50's shape, research on the fabric should reveal a true date.

Pumps: Chinese Laundry yellow Giggle.
Necklace: Target yellow plastic beads, a few years old.

    1. Thank you! I'm loving this style of dress more and more. I think this style would look very good on you too. It must be a vintage clothing dream to live in Los Angeles as you do. You could probably find something similar.
      Have a great evening,

  2. So pretty! I'm sure whoever made it would be happy to know it's found a new home. I like how you paired the yellow necklace with it.

    1. Thank you Liana! That is a nice thought about the dress, that it is being enjoyed years later.
I love plastic retro beads. They were everywhere in the 80's and they have made a comeback in recent years. The yellow beads are from Target but I recently bought a dark salmon hued one at Forever 21.

  3. That is the best dress! I would rather have a homemade dress than a labeled one. That is such a great find. I bet it has such a wonderful story. Plus it fits you so perfectly!

    1. Thank you Jenni! Because the dress was homemade, it has more character, like the cute scallop detail at the bottom where the daffodil material ends. If it was mass produced, it probably would not have that.
I have a vintage Hawaiian maxi dress that I bought from the same store and the length is perfect for me. That one is so delicate I have yet to wear it. I still have time with this nice weather.
      Have a nice day,
