Fun Cheap Items

One of the things that I have enjoyed about some of the maxi skirts sold at Anthropologie is that when I roll the waist band to shorten the length, the underside of the band looks like a decorative belt.  This is the case with the Vanessa Virginia Petaled Paisley skirt that is marked down to $40 now.
While at Target yesterday, I snapped this picture of a cute Merona maxi skirt and Anthro looking necklace.  I like the idea of bringing out the orange in this skirt and I might have to wish list this one. The skirt is only $20 and the necklace is $13.  There is a part of me that loves a great cheap bargain and because of this, I have to watch out for the impulse buy.
This is why I have started making a list of desired items I have a crush on and need to stick with a monthly budget.
The hair clips and makeup were found on a Dollar Tree run.  Since I wear ponytails a lot, I like to shop for cute floral clips.  I love these Hawaiian themed Plumeria blossoms that come in a two pack.  They seem to do one color with a black flower and I'm hoping there is a pink one yet to come out.

The makeup was fun for me because I love green mascara and there was a huge lot of green Maybelline Great Lash.  I first tried this color when Maybelline came out with different fun colors for either an anniversary or some other limited edition promotion.
Of course when a makeup you like becomes discontinued or a limited edition it can strike panic.

I really like this bright teal/blue nail polish from Revlon with the cobweb art on the lid.  So this was most likely made for Halloween and the other funny thing was how sparse the packaging is.  Notice  the white background with minimal writing and color.  I wonder if this was given out as a promotion at an event and not meant for the mainstream market.
The eye shadow is a glittery black color and I thought I could play around with it as an eye liner.  I really need practice in the eye lining department.
Necklace: Anthropologie Rona Layered. Still available.
Shirt: Anthropologie Meadow Rue Cuyama Tee from 2014.
Shoes: Old J.Crew pointed toe flats.

  1. What fun bargain buys! This is one of my favorite outfits on you. The palette is perfect with your skin and hair, and I love the frills on the t-shirt for an extra-special touch. Like you, I enjoy finding "Anthro-style" items at discounted stores. It makes me feel like I'm getting the mood and whimsy of Anthro without the high price tag. Nothing beats shopping in an Anthro store, though. Sorry, Target!

    1. Thank you for the nice compliment! I love rust colors but they seem hard to find.
It's a lot of fun to hunt and find Anthro type items but I have found that if I buy the cheap along with Anthro, I end up spending too much.

      Have a nice day,

  2. This is one of my favorite outfits of yours! Love the colors!

I have a teeny tiny nub of a Max Factor lipliner that is no longer sold. It's like I'm hanging on to it for dear life or something. It is just the perfect shade for me and I haven't found a replacement. I was in a discount store in Florida about ten years ago and bought about ten of them and this little nub is the last one of that lot. Ah well. Maybelline Great Lash is my fave too!

    1. Have you tried Clinique Black Honey lipstick? I don't do red lipstick but this is a pretty brick reddish stain that magazines claim is a universal shade. I was skeptical until I tried it out and now it's one of my favorites.
I have heard of a company that you can send your old lipsticks to and they will recreate the shade but I don't know the name. I read about it in a magazine years ago. You could try to look for this company online by typing "discontinued lipsticks" or something like that.
I hope they never discontinue Cover Girl Tapestry Taupe eye shadow.
      Have a great evening,

  3. You wear green mascara? That is wild.

I don't wear much make-up but inevitably when I do find something I like the next time I go in it is discontinued.

    1. It sounds more wild than it is. It just looks like regular mascara with a tint of green.
But it does sound like something Cyndi Lauper would have worn in the 80's.
      Have a great evening,
